Legalize Hemp and Cannabis in California

Please help these words to ripple... ripple becomes a wave... wave becomes a tsunami... pretty soon love and compassion are the law of the land and no more honest people are locked in cages, beaten, or robbed!

Right now there are two competing signature drives to put Cannabis legalization initiatives on the ballot in California in November 2010.

One is found at www.taxcannabis2010.org

The other is found at www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org

Please look carefully at the text of both laws (the text of each is finalized) and make up your own mind which one you support.

I am supporting www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org because our law will protect Cannabis users from discrimination in

healthcare, employment, and housing. It is a full legalization measure for industrial hemp and recreational cannabis which will restore full human rights to Hemp farmers and Cannabis users all across California. Of course supplying Cannabis to children will remain illegal just as it is today. Driving vehicles under the influence will remain illegal just as it is today. Cannabis users will still be fired from their jobs if they show up to work impaired.

There are two parts to our plan. The first part is to publicly post and personally distribute our "Freedom Lover's Call to Arms" in order to recruit volunteers. This document is available here-

The second part of our plan is to ask everyone who volunteers to make a pledge for how many signatures they can collect in

the next 30 days or so. 15-30 signatures is a good number. If enough volunteers show this level of commitment we can succeed. You can probably get that number from your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors without having to solicit in public too much. This is an "out of the closet" movement. We will have to proudly advocate human rights for responsible, honest, hard-working Cannabis smokers in order to convince legitimate people to support us. I can supply stickers equivalent to each persons pledge number. These stickers can be used to generate interest and be given to voters who sign the petition. Here is the sticker design-

We have 145 days in order to get the number of signatures that we need. Our petition is hot off the press on 9/11 and we

have started collecting the first signatures yesterday 9/12.

We are polling 56% public support for Cannabis legalization in California which menas that this is an initiative which is not doomed. Its time has finally arrived; we are at the tipping point right now. Now is the time to do this and to do it right. We may only get one chance. If a law which is not exactly what we want is implemented then we may lose our critical mass and our ability to set it right.

I believe that less adults will smoke cannabis after it is legal. This is the case in the Netherlands where it has been

available over-the-counter for 30 years yet only half as many citizens (percentage-wise) smoke as do citizens here. My economics professor has taught for years that prohibition has not succeeded in decreasing usage by increasing penalties. Instead it has destroyed lives and families without substantial benefit to society. After legalization hard-drug usage will decrease due to a "separation of the markets," a decline in the price of Cannabis relative to hard-drugs, and the restoration of honesty and common sense in drug education. Violence, thievery, and the incarceration of honest people will decrease as well. I also believe that a well regulated market will decrease the availability and appeal of cannabis to children. In fact teenage Cannabis use in California has fallen steadily since the passage of Proposition 215. Furthermore the adults who smoke Cannabis after legalization will be better able appreciate the majesty of nature in peace and unity without learning to fear and disrespect authority figures. This will be better for their spirits and better for society. Finally the human rights of legitimate medical Cannabis patients will be better protected than they are today. Legalizing Cannabis will create a safer, healthier, and more humane California for us all to live in.

Radical Faerie Conference, Urban Gathering and Performance Event

October 2 to 4, San Francisco

This call goes out to Radical Faeries to join together in San Francisco this October 2 to 4, 2009, to invigorate and inspire each other and to help lay the way for Radical Faeries around the world to achieve higher levels of awareness and cooperative action.

In honour of the 30th anniversary of the first national Radical Faerie gathering in 1979, we are gathering together once again to reflect upon and celebrate our hirstory, accomplishments and creative genius.

We are planning a gorgeous event of sharing information, thought-provoking ideas and reflections, and scrumptious entertainment. Last year’s FAEposium was intellectually juicy and gorgeously fun. We think this year’s event is not to be missed!

This, our second annual FAEposium, is no stodgy academic conference, but a mixture of faerie performance, inspirational papers, thought-provoking panels and lively discussions. We take as our model the classical Greek Symposia which were a mix of philosophical thought, entertainment, laughter, feasting, and propitiation of the gods.

What topic are you passionate for our community to talk about? Submit a proposal to facilitate that conversation! We’re interested in whatever creative ideas, wisdom or performative genius you would like to offer to the greater faerie community. We are not terribly impressed by academic credentials, but we are impressed by new ideas, provocative propositions, entertaining presentation styles, and thinking that may affect the development of our community and its future.

Performances

We invite live performances that offer more than art for art’s sake (or camp for camp’s sake)—we want to encourage thoughtful performances that engage and inspire the audience through their content, beauty or complexity.

Workshops, Panels and Presentations

These offer an opportunity to discuss and record our history; explore ideas that you feel passionate about that would be of interest or benefit to the Radical Faerie Community; examine issues confronting the Radical Faerie movement at this critical time; consider ways in which Radical Faeries in urban and rural settings can develop new gatherings and create new sanctuaries; provide venues for skill-sharing of many different types; explore the most pressing needs facing Faerie sanctuaries to help insure their strong future.

The FAEposium is a chance to share our collective and individual wisdom, and creative genius with the larger faerie community and the rest of the world. If you care about where our community is, you probably have something to say and we want to help you express it... using presentation styles most comfortable and best suited to you. Presentations, papers, panels and performance might include a variety of performance approaches, multimedia presentation, spoken word, music, drag, dance, new ideas and provocative propositions.... anything that gets us thinking, feeling and ready to move forward!

During the FAEposium, we’ll honor the gods and goddesses at a Radical Faerie Bacchanal with libations, bangin’ tunes, lovely food and much good conversation stimulated by all that has come before. Afterwards, we will honor Hestia by cleaning up after ourselves. We very much hope you can join us.

Documentation & reflection, creating a rich and varied snapshot, a mirror for us and a place for future Radical Faeries to look back at, is part of this year's Faeposium vision. We welcome you to join us in this process.

Need a place for the winter near SF

Hey, faeries.

My partner Harlan and I are coming to the California Bay Area this fall, and we are trying to find a place to stay through the winter.

Most important is that we find a place to stay for little or no rent -- we're in the middle of a big transition in our lives, and we're looking for some time and space to figure out what comes next for us. We are very happy to discuss things like work trade, non-monetary exchanges, caretaking/house-sitting situations, and the like. We are not at all picky about amenities, and don't mind considering any sort of unusual situation. Hoping to be close to the urb, but willing to think about rural locales too.

We are hoping to find a place to stay through the end of the winter, but really, we're interested to hear about anything people might have to offer. I think that we're both pretty awesome (but that's my take), and could truly use some help in the next few months in order to gather ourselves for lives of being more in service to our community and our planet. There are a number of people who could act as character refs for us if you don't know us personally -- just ask.

Straight Men Attend Gay Social Events?

Oddly enough, I find that a few of the straight men go regularly to gay bars and gay social events. I was wondering about this. Do you think these men are truly straight or bi-curious? Or, is there some other reason for straight men to want to socialize with gay men?

The FFV community 2010 Request for Ambasidors

Thanks everyone For all the support (& hugs) the past couple of weeks,
Its was challenging to take on some of the things that we are addressing
here. But I do Believe in Faeries(Claps hands).
The Naked Jack off guys, the Gawkers, the endless people walking threw the
village in wonderment, The Lady selling her stuff at the gate(who I had to ask
to move several times) They are all going to be easily dealt with next year...
In Fact I am SOOO excited about next year. Its very easy folks, everyone that
we know ei Faeries, Friends, and Others, we will all get either a stamp or a
wristband (what ever we decide as a group ... that being the FFV Circle) Maybe
we have both, wristbands for people helping and stamps for people that day who
knows.
This can happen before Pride with wristbands and that day with stamps. The
place where the open gate has been for the past couple of years would be the
Wristband/Stamp only gate, where we have monitors/Fay security folks, there
would be entrance and exit with "magical" gates, we are faeries.. cant we make
magic happen in any space we hold, we do it at our country community's why not
our City Faerie Freedom Village dwelling. The main entrance for the Muggles and
others will be on the other side (UN building side) they have to wait in a line
and be asked a Question, Smudged with sage or incense, blessed with glitter and
then they can have a stamp. Once they have a stamp/wristband then they can go
in or out freely from the other gate.
I am ASKING for everyone to help, no matter what... we are a part of
COMMUNITY, I am not a part of DEVA freedom village where everyone a part of
that community is being served. I love making things happen for Faerie Spaces
and served for Years at Short Mountain Sanctuary. I watched people come for
gatherings for years some would serve Feirce Fabulous Drag, be amazing
performers, DJs and many other extraordinaires. yet had nothing to do with
getting their hands into the makings of their own backdrops, food, or safe
space. Anotherwards get down off the Highheals and be supportive. Help your
sisters/brothers/friends, lets create community together next year and make our
FFV space SAFE COMMUNITY SANCTUARY from the hubbub of Pride.
I am asking everyone to be Faerie Ambassadors next year. If you have been
part of the Farie Community for a while then I am asking EVERYONE to actually
put in at least half an hour next year, that could be helping with setup or
takedown, it could be helping at the entrances/exits (for that we need the most
people really, its where the Positive or negative energy enters... or exits)
Maybe you help pick up some trash it was so messy this year (Faeries please...
are we that environmentally unconcious?{sorry couldn't help but say something} )
Mabey you help by bringing food to share with others or how about taking it on
yourself to walk up to folks that look bewildered and talk to them. All I am
saying is that it really takes a community to create the kind of space that we
are all looking for, and we are all part of this community. PLEASE SUPPORT ONE
ANOTHER.
I am honored to take on being the manager again next year, just so that
everyone knows and understands(if you didn't before) every Stage/Space at Pride,
legally has to have a "Stage Manager" BUT we are the only
non-commercial/community space of our kind at pride. Everywhere else that our
community's exist there isn't a "manager", we all have a part of making things
happen. So even if I am the manager I am a part of community. So starting in
Oct. we will start the circles for FFV 2010. Really it will be a great place
for us to have Potlucks and Chats and be supportive of each other. Not every
circle has to be like a meeting. Believe you me I have to go to the Pride
meetings all winter (required for the managers) ..... BORING(rolls eyes) I know
we are a community with many factions, I am hoping the FFV circle will be
different folks of our many Fays.
If You would like to be a part of ten FFV leaders come to the FFV
Circles starting in the fall, these leaders will be focusing on different
aspects of the village in fact here are the things that need the most attention.
1)Set up (Privacy fencing, gate setup, etc )
2)Decorations
3)Sacred Space holders(Creating the alter, setting the magical tone)
4)Food and Water
5)Security (gates protection and inside awareness,yes awareness)
6)Secretary
7)Stage manager (setting up performers line up and managing the Devas)
8)Equipment/sound person/s
9)Over night staff for the village/ so that we can have saturday
events
10)TakeDown Crew
There is also things like Fund raising and other things that we could use actual
help with
In fact I need to find a way to refund myself for the money I spent for village
things this year. It only cost about 1000 for all the rentals but I ended up
buying things out of my own pocket to help in the end. The Sisters were kind
enough to give us a Grant this year that covered our rental cost so be sure and
give them thanks for FFV support when ever you see them out.
Anyway I am Thankful for all the love we have for one another, lets keep
being patient with each other so we can all grow

09 Faerie Freedom Village (call for Circle)

Dear J Rhett Aultman,
(this is a 2 part letter , 1st part directly to J Rhett Aultman, 2nd to the Pride Committee and the Bay Area Radical Faeries)

1) I want to first apologize for J Rhett Aultman's experience at Faerie Freedom Village. I do not excuse the actions of those (some of which are not Faeries) that took energy instead of giving it back by Jacking off for the cameras. We had various situations to deal with that day, including rowdy drunk people, belligerent homeless, and rude gawkers. These people were not on the Faerie Village team, did not rent the space, set up the space or help clean up. As the Manager of Faerie village, I should have taken more time to recruit monitors to help manage the onslaught of people who often just walk in without any connection to the faerie community. I am not Putting Blame on anyone but myself for not asking for more crowd control help. I want to apologize for the resulting staff shortages, which impacted our ability to manage the crowds that visited our space.
This was my first year as the manager of Faerie Freedom Village and unfortunately learned some very hard lessons. One is that some Faeries can be very Flaky, I had multiple people that had said they would help with preparations(such as making signs etc) and with tear down. Unfortunately many of those folks did not show up until it was time to have fun, Managing Faeries is like herding Cats. Although I want to personally accept responsibility, I had great intentions that did not all become a reality.
I do want you to know that I was actively trying to stop the exhibitionist guys and encourage them to move away from the view of people. They have been disrupting Faerie Village for several years now. Last Year I was working as Security inside Faerie Village and had several confrontations with more than one individual. When I realized that one of the main guys is straight, not of our community and an exhibitionist, that made me even more uncomfortable. His responses were confrontational and unreasonable.
Besides the fact that I was multitasking (Manager, Decorator, Security, Putting out emotional Fires Etc) this is the First year that Faerie Village (I specifically) called the Cops in on those guys. The main guy refused to respect my warnings and so I called the Cops in, after all by doing what they were doing they were representing Faerie Village and I have had enough of it personally.
The guy hid when the cops were there, and when the cops left I found him and had an uncomfortable situation where he argued with me grabbed me and I had to tell him to let me go. This is a person who has never been to a Faerie Gathering or Circle he shows up every year and takes his clothes off and starts jacking off for the cameras. Well I warned him that I was calling the cops back over and he tried to get away by jumping over the fence, little did he know (I might be a fag but I am still scrappy) I jumped over the fence and followed him while on the radio telling safety I was on his tail and needed cops to meet me so he could be arrested. Fortunately for me he went in the direction of two cops and since I had my security shirt, badge, and radio I just shouted to the cobs to stop him and arrest him, they took our names, and lets just say that that particular guy will never be at the Village again if he does try to enter next year he will be Arrested on the spot.
That does not excuse the lack of village monitors; I personally want to apologize for that and hope that this experience won't sour your thoughts on the San Francisco Faeries. It is a shame that the actions of a few people can have such a negative impact on a group that is trying to have some Spiritual Change and not just Sexual liberation. I have some great Ideas for how to not have this happen again and look forward to that Change.
Again I just want to reach out to show you these things are being addressed and not just ignored, and I hope you will contact me if you would like to chat further about the Village. Below is the second part of the letter that I invite you to read.

2) This next part of the letter I want to Address The Radical Faerie Community & the SF Pride Committee, by presenting some possibilities future Change in order to make Faerie Village a more safe and comfortable space. Like I said, I learned some hard lessons this year and realize why most of the managers over the years have only done it one year or two before they pass on the torch. I think its because it's a lot for one person or even a few. We did have many people do fabulous things to support community space at Faerie Freedom Village, including the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who gave us a grant, Spirneena, who stayed with me through all of take down to the bitter end, and many others that created Magic in the space. I have to say that it takes a Community to really create safe space. I am choosing to not give up but learn from the mistakes and Create something better for our future.
I think we can do this by recruiting more Faerie leaders to help manage the village, and by changing our gate procedure. We need to pull together as community and start having Circles/Meetings about FFV. I am asking for at least 10 committed people for next year, and circles Will be Required. Also, we can not continue to hold safe space at Pride without changing our Gate policy. We can do this without making it "Private or Faeries only", which in the past has been a concern by both the Pride committee and
Faeries. I personally had to deal with several ugly and uncomfortable intruders into Faerie Village (beyond rude straight exhibitionists, drunk people, Thieves, people with negative energy and the endless gawkers that treat FFV like a petting Zoo).

After living for 13 years of my life in queer intentional community where we had Faerie gatherings, I have learned that creating safe space can be a lot of work. I will not just bow out because of negative experiences; I would rather work toward recruiting others to collaborate together. I am not talking about people putting their two cents in and only showing up that day to the party. If we want to make choices about how FFV is run, we should be ready to commit to a monthly Circle (and potluck of course). I have already got 2 people as of today, So I don't think its going to be that difficult to recruit more people interested in creating positive Change at Faerie Village.
I think I have also figured out a way to cut down on the endless traffic and have a clearer Faerie Intention, while addressing the Pride Committees concerns that FFV not become a Private or Faeries only space. First off I just want to say, there is the VIP Pride party and not just any Homeless person or Drunk can just wander into the Party. I think it is also perfectly reasonable for the Faeries to want to control the flow of people into the space we are Creating. This is a security issue. J Rhett Aultman's letter should prompt us to spend more energy on creating greater intention around shared community space. With the current setup anyone can just walk in, even if they have allot of negative, disruptive attitude.

Here's a different approach. At most parties or clubs you have to have a stamp or a wristband. I suggest a wristband for the Faeries Friends and Others that might be entering the village. This wristband could freely be given as part of a welcoming ritual where interested people are saged or smudged as they are greeted with intention. Disruptive people are not going to want to wait in line for this, but those who feel a sincere call to be part of our community will be patient as we welcome them individually.
If all the Faeries and Friends we know get the wristbands beforehand, those who already connect to the community will easily enter. Otherwise you will be greeted, and asked open-ended questions, like "What are your intentions for FFV, What are you letting go of before you enter FFV, What are you Bringing to FFV" or something like this. A dash of glitter & you're on your way. This will definitely limit the flow of Gawkers, Drunks, etc. seeing that it might take a while for people to enter and I bet many people will choose to go other places rather than wait in a line.
I am open to discussing all the many ways we could work together to create a better space for the community in Faerie Freedom Village 2010. If we have a crew of folks to help then we can do all kinds of wonderful things. Please feel free to contact me; I am very interested in what others have to say, and look forward to creating a healing loving supportive Circle to support the future.

I'm writing to you today to invite your comments on some events I
witnessed at the SF Pride 2009 event. I sincerely hope that this letter
will be received in the spirit of honest and productive criticism in which
it is being written.

First, I would like to state that SF Pride 2009 truly impressed me. As a
recent transplant from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, itself a place with an
entrenched and active LGBT community, I was greatly anticipating SF Pride
2009. I could never have imagined its sheer enormity, though, and for the
most part, it was an event that nearly defied my ability to contextualize
it. This is in no small part due to the diligent efforts of a steering
committee that works tirelessly for its community.

I was, however, both surprised and disappointed by events I witnessed in
the Faerie Village pavilion. My partner and I had stopped by Faerie
Village because we have a background in Paganism and appreciate the spirit
of art and play so frequently embodied by those who practice Faerie
traditions. What we found when we were there, however, was a significant
number of men openly masturbating or engaged in other sexual activity,
some of them for audiences who were taking a large number of pictures. My
partner and I are both members of the sex-positive community in Seattle,
and so while we are not troubled by overt sexuality, we were still quite
shocked.

We were shocked because the description of Faerie Village contained no
explicit warning that people entering the space would be exposed to public
sexual activity. We were further shocked that there was nobody at the
entrance to the area to check IDs, confirm only adults were in the space,
and to warn people of what they might encounter. This, of course, creates
the issue of minors being exposed to public sexual activity. It also is
not in the spirit of sex-positive culture, as there was no way for us, as
guests, to have provided informed consent. We also saw no indications
that the cleanliness of the area was of concern, which itself can lead to
concerns about health and safety where open sex is being practiced.

Furthermore, we found ourselves seriously concerned over the possibility
that any of the people with cameras could have been a member of a group
seeking to undermine GLBT equality. As you are no doubt aware, a critical
argument for groups which oppose our equality is that GLBT people are
psychologically perverse, and capturing photographic evidence of men
masturbating in public at SF Pride 2009 would be an excellent way to
perpetuate such a myth. It certainly doe pose a challenge to argue for
the normalcy of all GLBT people when a flagship GLBT event includes sexual
activity on the lawn of the UN building.

We are new to the Bay Area and thus thought we should seek the opinion of
SF Pride. Is this a regular and endorsed practice as part of SF Pride
celebrations, or is this an oversight in what was an otherwise amazing
celebration of the LGBT community? Does SF Pride leadership agree with
our view that the activities in the Faerie Village were problematic and,
if so, what steps will you be taking to curtail these issues further?

for taking on the unbelievably difficult task of arranging an event of
this scope. I look forward to your correspondence and would like to
continue my participation in Bay Area GLBT activities in the future.

Gay Pride FFV calling all Fays 09

Well hello folks, This years Pride we are planning to have several events for Fay folks to gather at. Kind of a City Farie Gathering as it were. Such as having a stage at Pink Saturday and a Tea party in the plaza on the Saturday before pride. And Various Brunches and evening events. I am compiling events and making an event calendar for Fairys (notice how I change the spelling of Feries allot, kinda like some change their names) There are several things needed but mostly we just need each other to get together and make our lives more fabulous. Here is a list of some of those things.

Musicians
Decorators and Set up
People for Security (yes our own Homoland Security)
People to help with food
People for Clean up and Take down.

There are other things needed also such as materials for decorating the village, did you know they charge us around 1200 dollars for the privacy fencing alone...... HELLLLO We are fay folks I am sure we can find a way to cut the cost and find fabulous materials to hide our village and make it cute. I don't need to talk about how much they wanted to charge for everything we have rented in past years (I went through and made cutbacks that were not necessary) But folks we can make magic happen without having to Rent tents and several other things that we ourselves can produce at 1 fourth the cost. So I am putting out a call lets make FFV feel like a magical world this year.
Anyway summer is coming. I invite anyone that wants to help with Gay Pride FFV to please contact me and just tell me what you would like to participate in. I am going to be the Manager of Fairie Freedom Village this year and there will be allot going on. Fairy Freedom Village is the only space at Gay Pride that doesn't have any buying or selling of products, there are no referendums to sign, or anyone to vote for, or anything to register to vote for, in fact Its main purpose is to be a space where we can just celebrate together.

The Queer Spirit Meditation Group for men meets weekly on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the South of Market area. Facilitated by Will Roscoe, the group uses proven methods of relaxation, guided visualization, symbol-making, affirmations, and energy circles. Will also draws on his extensive research into queer spiritual traditions among Native Americans and around the world.

After attending the first radical faerie gathering in 1979, he worked closely with Harry Hay for many years, editing his writings in the collection Radically Gay. Will has been using and sharing Applied Mediation for over two decades.

We offer profound gratitude to the communities and people that have given us so much support over these last few months. the blending and expansion of community bonds and kinship is such a part of why chaos exists.

We write with humility and appreciation to say we still need your help. Financially, we are struggling. the care and hospice of our beloved bumble be and the resultant flow of extended visitors last fall was very intense for us and we are still in recovery mode.

We are planning a fundraising party for the coming spring equinox, and will post details about that as they emerge. As always, chaos is happy to accept donations of almost anything that contributes to the flow of the house.

If you or people you love have ever found solace, comfort or bliss at chaos, please consider donating to the household, in whatever form you are able. We know that the current economy is being rough on many of us, and that its sometimes difficult to stay present in the mindset of abundance. We're still deeply committed to being the space of sanctuary and community we always have been, because we know that abundance is enough and some to share, happiness shared is multiplied, and need shared is lessened.

We're also now into what we call our backstage period, which means the cabaret will effectively be closed to long-term and overnight visitors for the month of March. During this time, we will be focusing our energies towards finishing house projects and deep cleaning on multiple levels. We will be redoing the bathroom ceiling, creating a food garden, and sorting and putting up the library. People wishing to help with book-cataloguing and shelving should contact the green one for scheduling.

We ask the wondrous range of faeries, witches and weirdos to please find a different fabulous scene for hanging out, staying over, processing, and all the myriad things that people often do here. Our energy levels, be they psychic, spiritual, green, or psychological, are still recovering from being maxed out.

I'm Shiloh and my partners name is Mirror and our dogs name is Little'un. We are traveling to the bay area this month hoping to connect with our radical friends we know from SMS, new friends we made this samhain at nomenus, and perhaps friends we haven't even met yet! I am a musician and am looking for venues to play my songs but sadly have not had any luck yet. But I'm more than happy to take it to the streets! What we really need is a flat place where we can legally park and plug in our van during our stay. We are experienced sensitive guests and we're totally self sufficient in our van. We have our own kitchen and bathroom and everything. We just need somewhere flat to park and plug in where we feel welcome. What's your read on this? Would it be more effective than calling in gay?

Q. What is this all about?

A. The concept is simple: bring the various segments of the bay area
faerie community together, create a warm seasonal tradition filled
with feasting, performance, dancing, ritual & merriment, and raise
funds (!!) to support our shared faerie community spaces. It's not
a sex party, but something that the general community can attend as
a faerie showcase event. A big bash that goes back to our roots to
show people another way of doing things in this modern Post-Christian
age. Something that celebrates the sun's return….

Q. A benefit on Solstice? Raising funds for what exactly?

A. Building Faerie Community. LITERALLY… We're talking about
expanding physical infrastructure!

Last year that meant raising over six thousand dollars, matched by a
private donor to become a $12k to help SMS purchase an adjacent land
parcel & expand the sanctuary. This year there are 4 proposed
solstice beneficiary projects that will jointly benefit from this
event, to be discussed & finalized at the Solstice Planning Meeting.
All proceeds minus costs will go to the following:

(1) Raven's Crossing: building a floor in the new community event
space, the Long House. Estimated Materials Cost: $1,000

(2) Wolf Creek: building the long-awaited bath house! Total needed:
$10-15k. Solstice Goal: at least $1000, more if extra successful

(3) Comfort & Joy: silence the generators by going 100% Solar energy
@ Burning Man 2009. Funds needed: $1500.

(4) Short Mountain: Some amount TBD for Comfort & Joy's gathering
gifts fund for Short Mountain' s Beltaine gathering (examples: Saki
Party supplies, etc)

Visiting For the Solstice: Who's got crash space?

Hello all my lovelies. Its your friendly neighborhood militant Fairie super-hero, Flash!

Long story short, some of you know me from Short Mountain, some of you don't. I am currently hanging my hat in Portland, OR and have just purchased tickets to visit SF from the 18th through the 25th. I figure between almuni of my college (Antioch) and Fairies I shouldnt have to pay for a hotel. I can have much more fun staying with friends and paying my way via groceries, housework, conversation, and/or buttsecks! Sooooo....if you know me (Echo, Valarien, Tree, Digger, Storm, Morning Glorious, Solon and others) please contact me. I lost my Fairie address book and would very much like to see you and offer my groceries, housework, conversation and/or buttsecks.

I wouldn't be staying the whole time in one place. Guests, like fish, start to smell after three days. So I'll merrily move from couch to futon to avoid that.

Seeking Gay Male Participants for Research on Spirituality and Homosexuality

My name is Hayden Reynolds. I am spiritual, a gay man, and a graduate student at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. I am conducting research in fulfillment of my Ph.D.

The research centers on the stories of men who believe that their gayness is integral to their spiritual development. I will be interviewing gay men about a time in their life when their understanding of their gayness shifted from being solely physical to having spiritual meaning as well.

Being involved in research of this nature can be highly beneficial. Participants will be asked to reflect on their spiritual development and on their gayness. This kind of introspection gives you the opportunity to see where you have come from and can help you to see where you may be going. The time commitment is less than 5 hours, which are broken into separate time blocks for the smaller tasks of the research. The longest of the blocks is less than 2 hours.

You will be a great candidate if you…

• live in the San Francisco Bay Area

• are biologically male

• identify as gay

• are on a conscious spiritual development path

• have made a shift in understanding about your gayness from being solely physical to also spiritual in nature.

• are able to identify and speak about the period of time when the shift was most present in your life.

The amazing John Burnide has died

John Burnside died quietly at his home on Sunday, September 14th, at 5:45 pm. He was surrounded by the Circle of Loving Companions, a group of Radical Faeries that took care of him in the final years of his life.

John was one of the founders of the Radical Faeries, a gay movement pioneer, an inventor, a dancer, and the loving partner of Harry Hay for 40 years.

There is a spontaneous memorial altar for John at Bank of America at the corner of 18th Street and Castro. Please feel free to bring additions to the altar.

A memorial to celebrate the life of John Burnside is being planned for the future.

He flies back out on Tues., Nov. 4th, so we need to get a ride back by Mon., Oct. Nov. 3rd.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a room starting November 1, either short term or long-term if we click. I currently live on 24th Street in the Mission and would like to stay within a mile of here.

I'm 38, single queer male, don't smoke, drink socially. I'm successfully self-employed as a web designer/programmer and would be working from home so I'll need broadband. I work about 6 hours a day but probably surf a little more in addition. I don't like TV in general, but will download a show here and there. I have a two-movie-per-month Netflix account.

I'm very good at keeping common spaces clean and tidy, as cleaning is one of my preferred forms of procrastination! My own space tends to have piles of technical and other books on the surfaces and wires from various electronic boxes, but the floors and bed is clear and clean. I don't have a ton of stuff -- everything fits into my current 8x10 room.

I'm ecologically conscious, walk, take transit, ride my bike, and have a City CarShare membership. I tend to prepare the good majority of my own meals, and am happy to share shopping/cooking/eating duties. The food I cook is 90% vegan with the occasional egg and fish, assuming that's allowed in the household. Having been cooking for myself for 20 years, I'm pretty good at it, assuming you like the kind of food I eat (veggies, fruits, beans, nuts, whole grains, in about that order). I'm very knowledgeable about health and nutrition, though I'm not especially dogmatic. When I'm at a restaurant is when I eat 'junk food' such as fried things and meat, so that's the minority of the time. I go to the farmer's market on a regular basis, Rainbow, Mexican groceries, and Trader Joes for little things.

Politically I'm pretty left like most people around here, though again I wouldn't call myself dogmatic. I'm pretty open minded and tolerant, and it's extremely rare that I get angry. I consider myself very pragmatic and rational, though my exposure to new age woo woo stuff is probably greater than most people's. Cats and children are attracted to me, which is fine as long as they're not mine!

I'm very good at living with others -- I don't write passive aggressive notes and I speak plainly yet calmly. People say I have a calming influence. Hopefully that doesn't mean I'm boring!

For fun I like going on long bike rides, reading, traveling, meeting new people, every now and then I'll get into a musical phase and create an electronic song or two (using my computer, synth, and headphones). Hanging out with my friends is essential, though I rarely ever do it at home with the exception of an occasional meal. I enjoy light gardening, but realized long ago I don't particularly want to be a farmer.

I'm a (quiet) night owl and tend to stay up until about 3 and get up at noon. I've been like this since I can remember, and though I don't require that others in the house keep the same schedule, it would be cool if they could be sensitive to it as far as morning noise since I'm a light sleeper.

As far as the kinds of people I enjoy being around, they tend to be smart, funny, creative, slightly flawed, non-mainstream, and not excessively neurotic or dogmatic. Ideally they don't wear synthetic scents or burn low-quality incense or are addicted to anything.

If it sounds like we might be compatible, please let me know.

An Invitation: Dancing Queerly-Gendered Deities at the Reclaiming Spiral Dance

TransGender, GenderQueer, OtherGender folks of a pagan spiritual inclination may be interested in this work I'm doing with Reclaiming's Spiral Dance this November 1. All are welcome. Information about Spiral Dance can be found here: http://www.reclaiming.org/rituals/samhain.html

I'm seeking people who feel called to invoke and dance Transgender, Othergender, Gender-Free, and Gender-Rebel Holy Ones during Spiral Dance. You don't have to identify any particular way in your daily life, although that may help you connect to Whomever you invoke. You should be eager to invoke (and portray through costume and dance) a Deity or Mysterious One who is not binary-gendered: examples include Ardhanarisvara, Hermaphroditus, Pales, Wadj-wer, Baphometis, and Swaitowid, among others. Many Deities that are commonly seen as binary-gendered also have "hidden" othergendered sides. We will do some exploring with the aid of Raven Kaldera's book Hermaphrodeities and some other secondary literature to help us connect to Whomever we choose/are chosen by.

(A simple explanation of "invoke": inviting a Deity or aspect of the Divine to be present at a ritual by manifesting Their characteristics; at Spiral Dance, this is usually done through costume and, of course, dance.)

The dance will be very short, and most of it will actually consist of holding space for other dancers. I have taken it as a sacred charge not to add length to the ritual as planned; please join me in that commitment and hold that intention with me.

Good Guy in Bay Area needs temporary housing

Dear Rad Fae and other gay spiritual folks of the Bay Area,

I am a kindred spirit. I am probably a radical faerie although I have not attended any events.

I am a very spiritual gay man. I am doing service and activism for spiritual gay men everywhere through the completion of my dissertation, and now I need some help.

I need a temporary place to live for August and September.

My landlady lost her house in June, and I've been in temporary housing that ends soon. My boyfriend and I are moving in together in October. So I need a place for 2 months.

Two difficulties are: 1. I need to save money for the permanent place in October. 2. I have two feline familiars that accompany me wherever I go.

In addressing issue 1, I am willing and able to perform service in exchange for housing.

My friends and former housemate can verify my good heartedness, and all around even keel.

I hope either you, the reader, or someone you may know can help me out.

I need a place as close to San Francisco as I can get (Peninsula, San Fran, East Bay), and I need a place starting Friday, August 1.

The logging situation at Wolf Creek and what to do about it

Hi-

There is a proposed timber project on the hills above the Sanctuary at Wolf Creek by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management, or Bureau of Large Mistakes). The link for it is here: www.blm.gov/or/districts...lfPupScop.pdf

The proposed logging area is in the entire watershed above the Sanctuary property. This includes our water rights on a small tributary of Wolf Creek (which we call the Spring System). The water right will probably have the most impact in determining the actions that the BLM ultimately takes concerning the proposed management activity.

NOTE: The State, which grants water rights, had no knowledge of our water right in planning the proposed State logging sale last year. Two different offices – Forestry and DEQ, and they appear not to be in sync. FOR SURE, BLM has no record of our water right. Spiral is going to send them a copy of it.

The plan is not just about logging. Included in it are some actions that will benefit the watershed. From my reading of the proposal, there are a couple worth mentioning. First of all is the lessening of fire danger. People may have forgotten, but there was a major forest fire that was totally out of control for several weeks less than 30 miles from the Sanctuary, the Biscuit Fire in 2002. It was huge – burning in a mosaic pattern over parts of a hundred square mile area.

At least in part, the Fire spread due to fire prevention in the last century. Historically forests had small, low level ground fires every 10 – 20 years. Since the complete suppression of all fires, the ground level fires have not burned out all of the plants that would have been removed naturally. This has led to a buildup of plants, all competing for sunlight and water, and creating a dangerous fire conditions. Stressed plants are more susceptible to fire, and there is a continuous “ladder” of fire fuel from the floor of the forest to the tops of the tallest trees.

This proposal seeks to address some of that by removing ladder fuels from the project area. On a side note, the areas in the Biscuit Fire that were managed in this way suffered less catastrophic effects than non-managed areas. The second benefit that I see is that ground water will increase in the watershed because the over-stocking of plants will be gone, and those areas of the watershed that need more water – riparian zones, fish, aquatic invertebrates – will have the water that would have been absorbed by the plants.

There are drawbacks to the proposal, too, and I am not trying to paint a two dimensional yes/no portrait of the plan. The phrase used the in the plan “overstory removal” means cutting the largest trees. In short, the BLM is trying to make some money from the sales. The contractors who bid on the sales from this project also are trying to make some money. Despite high lumber prices, that means taking a lot of big trees. And as cheaply as possible. This is a place where we can have some impact. There are several methods of logging mentioned in the plan. The cheapest is chain logging, where all the trees are dragged uphill, causing massive amounts of disturbance in steep slopes with erosive soil. A more benign way is to remove the trees by helicopter, which, of course, is very expensive.

It's not just the removal of trees that will affect the watershed, a more dangerous condition will be the erosion. Any benefit from having more water available would be more than wiped out by clogging it with tons of silt.

What can you do about this? Write a letter to the BLM. Ask a lot of questions – make THEM explain what the different types of logging are and how they affect the environment. Ask THEM what protections they will have for our water right. Be excruciatingly polite.

Or call them at 541-471-6505. If you call, I encourage you to write a letter also. Creating a written trail is vital in dealing with a bureaucracy such as the BLM. If even 10 letters needing replies are received, it will create a major headache in some Federal workers life, and have an impact in Agency decision making.

Remember it is not a done deal yet. The impact we can have on the eventual process will never be higher than it is at this moment. Fritz and I were pretty successful at stalling the proposed State logging project last year just by communicating with staff from their office.

The 8th annual Queer Shamanism Gathering will be held between August 15th-24th, 2008 @ Zuni Mountain Sanctuary in northwestern New Mexico.

The Stewards of the sanctuary are putting out a call for energy assistance in this endeavor.

This years proposed and requested possibilities include -- Storytelling, Heart Sharing; Sweat Lodge; Positive Tea; Playback Theater; Acoustical Music Circle, Divination Studies, Desert Walkabouts / Visionquesting ; Massage, Energy Balancing, Claycrafting; Desert astronomy; entheogen discussion; body/energy playgroup; BDSM workshop, desert spirit rain dance; Morning/Evening Yoga; Incense Making; Herb Wildcrafting; Poetry ReadingRants, permaculture and various happening and on-going infrastructure projects.

A Know-Your-Talent Show Multi-Media Arts Exhibit is planned for the Wednesdays (in the middle of the happening) as a benefit for the sanctuary and the neighboring community. Help make this your gathering by letting us know where your interests are and how you would like to plug your energy into the mix.

Plenty of tenting areas are being prepared by faeries for camping on Camp Hill as well as more secluded permaculturely friendly areas on the land. The RV parking is also available for persuns wishing to camp nearer the road. Food and water will be provided by the sanctuary with vegetarian meals prepared and served by volunteer attendees. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions, allergies or other health concerns or with special needs we should know about.

This year as in the past there will be also be study/actualization spaces for those seeking independent explorations.

Faerie Village wrap-up (and thank you's)

Ah, once again a wonderful pride and wonderful faerie village.

All of us who put intention into the village once again thank you. In particular, I want to thank iii, who took on the lead role this year. He did a great job, even though he had a full weekend of work to do.

And I also want to thank Keer. Keer is the one responsible for all of the fabric and decor and maypole that adorned our village this year. Keer was on the site starting Friday night, and stayed there for the whole weekend decorating and watching over the space until we opened on Sunday.

I'd also like to thank all of the other artists who helped decorate and hold space. And to all the performers who brought their art and beauty to the space.

Ok, now for the kicker. While Faerie Village is a non-commercial space, and we hate to involve anything involving money when it comes to the space, the reality is that we live in a world where things cost money. All the fabric, the pvc for the maypole, streamers, etc..., did cost us. And one faerie in particular spent money out of his own pocket to cover the expenses. We did consider passing a hat at faerie village, but thought it would be best to keep that kind of green energy out of the space, and so now here I am after the fact asking for any donations to help cover our expenses. In total, this faerie spent roughly $200 of his own. If 10 faeries each chipped in $20, we could get this faerie his money back. And if we do that, we know we'll have a happy fae who will come back to decorate again next year.

As one of the organizers of the village, we can use my paypal account to transfer money. It's my own personal account, that I'm not using for anything else. Any funds put into it will go directly to reimbursement of Faerie Village expenses for 2008. If we happen to get more than the cost to cover his expenses for this year, these funds will go for decor for next year.

Last call for contingent monitors for the parade

The parade is right around the corner (The day after tomorrow!!!!!), and we could still use 2 more contingent monitors for the Faerie Contingent. The requirements are VERY to easy to meet.

After attending an entertaining hour long training session (full of history and fun stories about past parades), you will then just need to march towards the outside of our contingent, wearing a discreet but exclusive contingent monitor sticker on your already fabulous outfit. You primary job will simply be to help keep the contingent together, and also to help make sure no one gets crushed by any run-a-way floats that have lost control of their brakes, and are madly hurtling down the street, plowing through a sea of drag queens and lesbians sending wigs and little pieces of electrical tape( designed to cover nipples) into the air.

OK, that last bit has never actually happened, but it does make for an exciting image!!!

There are two training sessions left:

On Friday June 27, CounterPULSE and Marrvelous Films presents ARTIST+NUDE= an art sale, auction and raffle of original nude art and photography made exclusively for the funding of "Faerie," a documentary that chronicles the history of contributions imbued by mankind by queer people – and the injustices they face today.

The evening will feature original drawings, paintings and photography from artists such as Shaun Johnson, Kenney Mencher, Kevin Rolly and more. Hosted by drag-diva Peaches Christ with nudist volunteers, the event is an Official Event for Pride 2008 and hopes to please local and out-of-town nude art collectors! Join us for art, nudity, music, drinks and more!

"I want people to understand that "Faerie" is a film about justifiable
human rights," says David Marr, producer and director of the film and

But there is trouble in IDA-land. Our friends have been renters for many years and the land they live on is now for sale. This 250 acre parcel of wooded and quiet land is on the market, and Ida has to raise a whole bunch of $$ to buy the land from the original owners ... or face eviction. The toss. Out in the cold. Sadness.

Contingent monitors needed for the Faerie contingent at the Parade

The SF LGBT Pride parade is fast approaching, and we will be needing volunteers to act as Contingent Monitors for the Faerie contingent. Being a Contingent Monitor is very easy. After attending a 1 hour training course (which are generally entertaining, and held in a number of different locations during the week leading up to the parade), the monitors main responsibility is to walk along with the contingent making sure that the contingent stays together, and that no one gets run over by an errant float.

The number of monitors necessary is determined by the number of people in the contingent, and the number of axles on any floats/cars/trucks that are part of the contingent. The following are the requirements as provided by the parade committee:

2-25 persons marching = 2 Contingent Monitors
26 to 50 persons marching = 4 Contingent Monitors
51 to 75 persons marching = 6 Contingent Monitors
76 to 100 persons marching = 8 Contingent Monitors
Motorcycles = Are considered "people"
2 Contingent Monitors per axle (Trucks, Cars, Convertibles, Floats)

At this time we are not expecting to have any vehicles in the contingent, so our needs will be based on the number of faes in the contingent. Now, because of the fact that we will be marching in proximity to one of the Grand Marshalls (our very own Ms. Joey Cain!!), there is a good chance that our contingent will be in the 51-75 range. This would mean that we will be needing at least 6 monitors, and should try for 8 to cover ourselves.

On May 22nd, Harvey Milk's seventy eighth birthday, a statue of him was unveiled at a fabulous party at San Francisco City Hall.

The justices released the 4-3 decision Thursday, saying that domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.

The cases were brought by the city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples, Equality California and another gay rights group in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco's month-long same-sex wedding march that took place at Mayor Gavin Newsom's direction.

Spiritual Gathering for Radical Faeries
(the Summer Men’s Gathering)

The Spiritual Gathering for Radical Faeries is often defined by its limitations. Since its first incarnation it has been open to gay men resonating with the words “spiritual”, “gathering”, “radical” and “faeries”. If you are not a gay man, we hope that you will excuse receiving this invitation and we ask your understanding that we are trying to send this to everyone who identities as a gay man, and who may wish to attend the gathering.

Actually the success of these gatherings dating from 1979 can be seen in the explosion of faerie events for all, especially at the Sanctuary in Wolf Creek that was purchased to have our own property on which to hold the Spiritual Gatherings for Radical Faeries. The SGRF (Wolf Creek Summer Men's Gathering) will happen this year from Friday the 13th of June through the eve of the Summer Solstice, June 20th. It will be followed immediately by a Solstice Celebration open to all, and then by the Nomenus Great Circle, the semi-annual business meeting for the Church of Nomenus, from Sunday, June 22nd through Tuesday, June 24th.

Spiritual Gathering for Radical Faeries 2008 presents a Return to Magick

A Return to the indefinable Energy that bonds us as Faeries. This practice, born in 1979, when it was not known who would feel called to a “Spiritual Gathering for Radical Faeries”, sparked the tradition of gay men gathering to create an Intentional Community to explore and re-create our visions, dreams, his-stories, and beings in a loving, supportive, heart centered space.

A return to Magick. We commune to discover and share our innate gifts and energies, imbuing all of our actions with resonance, grace, generosity, and a connection to the divine spirit within each of us. We congregate in ritual to raise sacred energy for the healing of ourselves and the Earth. We meditate in solitary calm, freeing ourselves of the strictures that impede our true beings.

A return to Radical. Our instinctual essence is radical. It is radical for men to relate to one another in loving, non-competitive ways. It is radical for men to wear skirts and hold one another in embrace. It is radical to celebrate our erections, both priapic and from labors. It is radical to gather in kindred spirit, making decisions on the basis of consensus. It is radical to give everyone the space to give voice without judgment.

A return to Fabulousness. The loving radiance that shines from each of us as we celebrate one another. Dressing for dinner, the fabulous No-Talent show, the mostly animal (I mean annual) Miss Wolf Creek pageant. The spontaneous performances and the enraptured participatory audiences that experience them. The sweet release of a breath held too long while hiding our true selves in the outside world.

A return to Exploration. Our intentional community gives us the freedom and space to move outside our usual patterns and truly explore what it means to be a radical faerie. To open to the New: new people, new ideas, new feelings, new ways of being, new ways to express ourselves, new behaviors. To reclaim the childlike wonder that lies dormant within us.

A return to Re-creation. We lavishly bestow upon ourselves the energy, the time and the space to nurture and actualize our evolution and creation.

A return to Sex. Putting the sensual back into consensual. We celebrate our human drive to procreate by our shared physical delight in one another, and by our progeneration of our divine faerie selves within our Gathering and within each of us in our travels afterward. A return to Freedom from Sexual Oppression, where each touch and desire is by mutual consent, and sexual expression protects and nurtures each himself and each other.

A return to Community. We gather in our Faerie village, joyously engaged in the everyday rituals of village life. We collectively cook communal meals, ensuring that individual dietary needs are met. Our generous loving energy assures equanimity in washing dishes, cleanup, and the myriad of tasks needed to support our village.

A return to Heart. From the daily morning Heart Circle through all of the day's activities, we share ourselves from the very center of our being. We uphold the principle that all of our communication is heart engaged so that every exchange between us nurtures both our hearts.

A return to Ritual. Assembling ourselves in a community determined space, time, and manner to raise group spiritual energy and have it move through/for/within us, celebrating our divine connections.

A return to Ourselves. What special feelings, thoughts, ideals, discussions, heart space, ways of being can we access only in Male Space? How do we relate to others not at or unable to attend the SGRF? How are the definitions of “men” and “gay” evolving? Does language itself limit our ability to share our identities and experiences? What happens to us after the SGRF?

What to bring:

A tent – the weather is perfect for outdoor sleeping. Special Needs (indoor) housing is available, but it quite limited in quantity. If you need this accommodation, please let the SGRF focalizers know as soon as possible. There are a limited number of tents available at the Land, if you would like to use one, please let us know. Lack of proper planning does not constitute Special Needs – showing up with nothing and/or no arrangements to take care of your sleeping space needs does not guarantee you a space.

For your tent – a tarp, a rainflap (yes, it does rain in June, although not reliably), ribbons, signs, a sling – something to make it unmistakably yours.

Bedding – sleeping bags, air mattresses, foam, pillows, blankets; the limited quantities of these on hand at the Sanctuary will be needed for Special Needs housing.

Personal care things – shampoo, conditioner, razor, toothbrush, towel, sunscreen, moisturizer, toothpaste, condoms, lube, handcuffs, insect repellent, personal sexual devices, teddy bears, makeup, nail polish, etc. We know that you will bring only bio-degradable and/or earth friendly products.

Clothes and other things to wear and share– Days are warm, nights can be cool. Bring appropriate footwear if you want to hike in the hills AND appear as a contestant in the Miss Wolf Creek pageant. The drag closet is available to fill in some missing items, but chances are that there won’t be a pair of ruby slippers in size 11 ½ EEE waiting for you here. Ditto for a pair of hiking boots in size 10 D. That size 20 cerise taffeta evening gown hanging in your closet at home would look fabulous at dinner one night.

A number for the No Towel Lint show. Drums for the drumming circle, maracas, tambourines, guitars, sweet voices for singing in harmony.

Boundless Good Energy – We know we don’t have to remind you about this. Caring, Support, Generosity, Sharing, Enthusiasm, Goodwill, and a host of other positive attitudes too numerous to list are the essence of Faerie existence. We gather to celebrate them with one another.

The small-as-we-can-possibly-make-it list of things you really can’t bring:

Your pet – sorry, but there are already caretaker familiars in residence here. New animals upset the balance and have the distinct possibility of creating problems. Please leave your familiars at home.

City attitude and expectations for City services: We hold gatherings in a rural remote area so that we can commune with Nature and each other. There is lousy cell phone reception here (Hey, it’s in the mountains!). Nomenus has only dial-up access to the Net, and that is used for business purposes. Although Grants Pass is only 25 miles away, do you really want to drive there for beer or a burger? The Wolf Creek General Store and the Circle of Wolves can supply your tobacco and beer/wine needs. Actually the Circle of Wolves, especially Nancy and Karen, are our special friends and loooooove visitors from the Sanctuary. They have an exciting array of good wines and beers, plus great outfits, frou-frou, and bric-a-brac.

My name is David "Raven" Bradley. I am reaching out to family across the
world in hopes of finding a room to rent in San Francisco. I feel the call
to come home. I have not lived in the Bay Area since 99 and have missed it
every since. I am hoping to find a room / mother in law type deal. Some
about me I am 33, a photographer, clean, quite, love to play and enjoy life.
I love music books and computers. I am a great artist and I work hard. Can
also grow legal medicine too :o). These past years traveling, working and
loving have been great. However the time has come to return. If you know of

Rideshare: Bay Area to Portland to Wolf Creek, back to Bay Area - Posting for Paddy

Please join me for any portion of this journey, to share company and hopefully some gas $. I have a few stops on my trip that ultimately is to go from the bay, to Portland, Wolf Creek, and back to the bay. Some of the dates are flexible, so please call if any of this sounds close to right for you.

Saturday April 26 leaving in the am from North Bay to Fort Bragg/Mendocino.
Later that day head up to the land at Wolf Creek and stay the night there.
Sunday 27th, early rise and drive to Portland.
Monday 28th return to Wolf Creek ! (probably early afternoon)

Drive back to the East Bay on Friday, May 2nd.

Oh, and there's a small chance that we will be taking a baby goat all the way from the bay to Portland. This is not confirmed, but would be a dream come true. So it may be necessary for you to love baby goats.

Harvey Milk & Harry Hay - A Proposal and Request

Dear Friends,

For the last four years I’ve been working with folks here in San Francisco to place a memorial sculpture of Supervisor Harvey Milk in San Francisco City Hall. It has taken that long to raise the funds, choose the artists and haggle with City Hall about where to place it. But all will come to fruition this May 22 when, on what would have been Harvey’s 78th birthday, the memorial will be unveiled in a free public event at San Francisco City Hall. There is only one remaining problem; our group is still about $10,000 short of the cost for the event and we have until April 30th to raise it.

I am asking for your assistance with a proposal that will help the Milk Memorial project and also pay tribute to Harry Hay. I want to raise enough money from Harry’s friends and admirers so that we can collectively be a sponsor of the unveiling under the name In Memory of Harry Hay. Harvey Milk’s dogged insistence that LGBT people represent and speak for themselves as a People who are a valued part of the larger society is the same spirit that drove Harry to start both Mattachine and the Radical Faeries. Harvey and Harry are part of the same historical narrative of radical change and social justice that is at the heart of the LGBT movement. It’s a narrative that can be easily forgotten in the rush to “normalize” the queer agenda. For me, Harvey’s statue in City Hall is one of a string of projects over the next decade that I hope will help to preserve and pass on to future generations that story and vision.

There are several levels of sponsorship, each with its own form of public acknowledgement and recognition. I’d like to raise $5000, which would make In Memory of Harry Hay one of the largest donors to the project. That would make an important statement. One thing I’ve learned working on this is that Harvey still scares off the traditional sources of big money donations. We have had great success with lots of $1 - $500 donors and raised a significant amount from their incredible generosity. But only one large donor stepped up to help us, The Bob Ross Foundation, which two years ago pledged to pay the remaining costs for the sculpture itself. All of those people, foundations and companies about whom you are probably thinking, “Did they ask…?” we have asked. The silence has been deafening, the responses paltry, but Harvey and the grassroots people power movement he symbolizes still makes a lot of those folks jittery.

If you have already donated to the Memorial project I want to thank you. If have not or would like to make an additional contribution to the In Memory of Harry Hay effort, there are several ways to do so. Checks should be made out to SF Pride/Milk Memorial. We also have incentives for donations over $1000 which you can see at our website. One is a signed and matted print of the Dan Nicolleta photo of Harvey which the design of the statue is based on. All funds collected in excess of costs will be put into a project to create an educational curriculum about Harvey for use in schools.

Visiting Art-Faun Sends Greetings and Invitation to Play

I will be passing through the Bay area from this April 23rd through April 29th
and from there will be going North to Beltane at WC. (for the first time!)

My intentions are primarily to begin making co-creative friendships with the allies
whose paths I cross while I explore this city-nucleus.

while I am in SF or at WC...

San Francisco, CA (April 4, 2008) – On Saturday April 19, the SF GLBT Community Center and Marrvelous Films present HOMOEROTIC, an auction of original homoerotic fine art and photography made exclusively for the funding of "Faerie," a documentary that chronicles the history of contributions imbued by mankind by queer people – and the injustices they face today.

The evening of art, music and cocktails will culminate in a silent auction featuring the work of celebrity photographer Glenn Campbell, top-40 recording artist and photographer Justin Winokur, fine artists Shaun Johnson, Jose Lopes, Marie Saquing, Jodi Carpenter, Kevin Rolly and many more established and up-and-coming sculptors and mixed-media artists. From, shocking to sensitive to downright silly, pieces range from fine art nudes to photographic editorials to Tim Walker’s tongue-in-cheek pop-culture billboard commentary “Sodomy.” Faerie T-shirts will be available for purchase and a raffle of prizes, including art and personal services, will be held.

FILM PROJECT SUMMARY

“Faerie” is a documentary film by San Francisco-based Marrvelous Films that seeks to illuminate the historical leadership and spiritual significance of the queer embodiment. By revisiting the contributions and gifts that have been imbued to mankind by socially eccentric thinkers and leaders such as Da Vinci and Socrates, “Faerie” aims to give meaningful context to the role and service of the these people—and shed light on the present day injustices and obstacles modern-day Faeries endure.

“I want people to understand that "Faerie" is a project about human rights and the spiritual and cultural significance of having a unique presence in life,” says David Marr, producer and director of the film and owner of Marrvelous Films. “I expect the film to be a learning tool and hope it initiates changes in the way society embraces the queer incarnation and function in life.”
